International sizing (XS, S, M, L etc.) can apply to different types of clothing: dresses, T-shirts, blouses, shirts, or trousers. However, when buying trousers, you may have noticed that the numbers on the labels do not resemble the symbols from either the international or European (34, 36, 38 etc.) size charts. How, then, do you choose the perfect size for women's trousers? We’re here to help!

Women's trouser sizes vs. other wardrobe items

Well-fitting clothes make us look great and feel comfortable. This does not mean, of course, that everything must cling perfectly to the body – there are styles of clothing that are actually meant to be loose. However, if we choose garments with a classic regular fit, it is worth ensuring they drape properly on the silhouette. This is particularly important for trousers – those that are too tight or excessively wide can distort the shape of the entire figure – so it is worth knowing your women's trouser size. For this wardrobe item, the sizing is often different than for shirts or skirts. If you have had doubts about it until now, they will disappear after reading this text!

Size 27 in women's trousers – what size is that?

Unlike the European clothing size system, women's trouser sizes do not increase by 2 (34, 36, 38 etc.), but by 1. The number representing the size of women's trousers can therefore be even or odd. It is worth knowing that it indicates the waist width, but in inches rather than centimetres. For example, if you see 31 on the label and wonder what women's size that is, simply multiply this number by 2.5, and you will get the value corresponding to the waist width of the trousers. Jeans additionally have a second number that refers to the leg length. So, if you see, for example, W (Width) 28 L (Length) 30 on the label, it means you must multiply both values by 2.5 to get the corresponding values in centimetres – in this case, it will be 70 cm for the waist circumference and 75 cm for the inseam length.

Women's trouser sizes – what else is worth knowing?

Chinos, culottes, high-waisted and low-waisted trousers… The number of available styles of women's trousers is truly vast. Some are almost completely loose, while others are fitted in certain areas. That is why, when buying trousers without the possibility of trying them on beforehand, it is worth measuring not just the waist and legs. In some women's trouser size charts, you may also find hip width, which helps in making an even better choice. If you haven't bought this wardrobe item online before, believe us that fitting the perfect model without physical measuring is possible! Simply measure your body parts accurately and compare the results with the numbers in the women's trouser size chart.
